Diatomite (Diatomaceous Earth) is an inexpensive, lightweight quality growing media made from sedimentary rock. Diatomataceous earth is promarily composed of the fossilized remains of single celled fresh water plants known as Diatoms that over the millennia were compressed into a porous rock. Diatomite consists of approximately 90% silicon dioxide, with the remainder of its contents being elemental minerals. Diatomite comes from an Australian mine that has a fresh water prigin and is natural, non-toxic, with minimal contaminants or salts that make most other sources unsuitable for horticulture. Great for orchids, grapes and greenhouse fruits and vegetables.
